Project Partners: Alamance County Arts Council, Sculpture in the Landscape, City of Burlington, Living Landscapes
The first iteration of this project was completed in 2010 as part of NLS’s public art initiative in partnership with the Alamance County Arts Council. A public art piece, “Let’s Build it Together” by Michael Waller, was placed at the site in 2010 and was later relocated to Downtown Burlington.
Additions and Renovations: In 2013, NLS consulted with Sculpture in the Landscape to create a new design for the circle with an additional investment of $30,000. The roundabout height was raised, a masonry wall was added, and a tricycle-shaped sculpture—"Chasing the Wind” by Jeff Hackney—was installed. The landscape design features the tricycle appearing to have left a trail of flowers behind as it meandered up the hill. In 2023, NLS renovated the plantings, replacing the existing annuals with longer-lasting perennials. The sculpture is lit at night for a dramatic effect. NLS and the City of Burlington contract with Living Landscapes to maintain the space.
